Our Classes

Classes prepare students for the 4 main parts of the GED/High School Equivalency exams. With 3 distinct levels, you can start in the class that's right for you, then advance to your goals.

Tuition for classes at the ALC is $20 per semester. Semesters are 16 weeks long. Fall semester runs from September through December. Spring semester runs from January through May.

Our Impact

The Adult Learning Center is a school for people looking to earn their GED or High School Equivalency Diploma. Our students come to the ALC seeking to improve their lives. They may have been shut out of better-paying work opportunities, denied promotions at their current jobs, or they may simply want more confidence in their ability to support their own children (or grandchildren) with their homework.

Most of our students express a desire to continue on to higher education at college or some type of specialized certification that will allow them to pursue a career that is both personally-fulfilling, and pays a true family-sustaining wage.

Years Serving communities

The ALC is located in the Halyard Park neighborhood and has been in the community since its founding in 1979. We serve students from over 20 unique ZIP codes!

Two unique features of the Adult Learning Center are:

  • A strong focus on one-to-one instruction

  • Over 100 volunteer tutors, who bring with them years of teaching and tutoring experience each week

Tutors choose the day and time they wish to serve each week. You may choose one day (or more!) Monday through Thursday. (We are always closed Friday.)
